In this work, the Octopus becomes a metaphor for manipulative power—whether political, religious, familial, or social. Each tentacle is embroidered with “I DECIDE,” followed by the many areas where that power seeks to impose itself: what we study, what we call justice, what we understand as art or peace, even what we buy and eat.
The octopus is bright and seductive because power rarely presents itself as a threat; it often arrives disguised as charm, promise, or protection. Its captivating front draws us in, while on the back the embroidered instruments of control—usually kept hidden—are revealed.
This piece invites us to recognize when we are being manipulated, to see the truth beneath the allure, and to reclaim our autonomy. That is why fabric dolls appear escaping from its tentacles: symbols of those who choose to break free, look directly at the mechanism, and recover their capacity to decide.
